A glorious day on the slopes, bluebird skies, the finest powder! Sometimes you just get lucky: a picture-book winter holiday that makes even the postcards look pale. The mountain air glitters crystal clear and, every time you swing by a hut, tastes of Kaiserschmarrn, Jagatee (hunter’s tea) and wooden cabin - wonderful. The last run takes you right to the hotel, and with one final braking turn you wrap the porter in a spectacular cloud of powder. What a day!
Cheesemaking in the Cellar
Once you’ve laughed and dusted off the porter, your fingers are feeling a little frozen after all. So off you go to the hotel’s own wellness temple, where the fine oils lead your nose to the steam bath. And as you push open the sauna door with your ski boot, you realise you’ve clearly forgotten something. The ski room! About turn, back to reception, then down the stairs, on the right. Uh-oh, already your nose is picking up something strange, and your imagination is painting cheese factories. Gorgonzola, Graukas (Tyrolean grey cheese), blue mould - as you push open the door to the ski room, you may even still be hoping to discover a secret alpine dairy. But that pungent air is nothing more than socks, ski boots and winter boots. Breathing through your mouth helps, of course, because you smell less that way. All the same, you’d rather dry your ski socks and boots upstairs, on the radiator in your room. And no sooner do you get back from the sauna than déjà vu hits you as you open your own door: a little private cheese dairy in your hotel room! And the day started out so well.
Something in the Air
Mood and air go hand in hand. As the proof more or less goes: if you can’t catch your breath, you won’t be smiling for long. Seen and experienced not only in the ski rooms of this world, but also in changing rooms, sports venues and hotel rooms. That way, a stay that’s otherwise picturesque (see above) can quickly have you wrinkling your nose (also see above). The upshot: feet can be unpredictable - especially other people’s. So the logical next question is what you can do about it. And Aromea scent marketing has five answers you can put into practice:
Answer One // Feet Are Friends
The foot itself isn’t to blame at all, it’s the boot. Because the vast majority of our sweat glands are in the feet, that’s naturally where you sweat especially hard during sport. The more airtight the wrapping around your foot, the faster bacteria and smells mature. What says windproof on the outside in winter is often airtight on the inside too, so the foot ferments in the boot until it’s allowed to air out in the ski room. Just choosing the right sock can work real wonders here.
Answer Two // Let It Breathe
You can do your feet and your ski room a huge favour by simply taking off those clunky boots every now and then. The experts call this airing, and they recommend it both during your refuelling stop at the ski hut and for the ski room itself. Where things dry, moisture forms, and that in turn feeds (scent) culprits. So open the window for fresh air, at least a little. If you have a ventilation system, you’re in luck, of course, because the powerful Aromea Pro can even be installed there out of sight. Otherwise, mount it on the wall so nobody knocks it over or (accidentally) takes it home.
Answer Three // Scent It Right
And that brings us to the final trick, because you don’t really need to do anything more. Except choose an Aromea fragrance. All right, with a selection like ours, that’s not so easy either, but for this particular cellar case, Aromea’s nose experts naturally have some carefully considered creations ready. Concealing and masking fragrances with a healthy portion of freshness, so you can breathe deeply: Pink Grapefruit (1018), Mandarin Zest (9012), Citrus High (7136) and Verbena Tea (1069). And here’s something worth knowing from the psychology of perception: people associate all things lemony with cleanliness. Bingo! Fresh Clean (7020) or Cucumber Mint (1010) are fine alternatives too - to give guests and citrus fruits a bit of a change.
Answer Four // Scent Season
Some very special un-smells are in season over the winter, especially in the ski room. But anyone who likes doing sport indoors knows these smells all year round. Here too, Aromea has a scent solution of its own: Victory (7148). As powerful as it is triumphant, and developed especially for heroes (and sports venues). Sweat now smells of fame and glory - breathe deep, ladies and gentlemen!
Answer Five // Scent and Love
Last but not least, back to the hotel room. If there’s trouble in paradise, it may just be something in the air. A host who takes good care of the ski room is also taking good care of their guests. You make it easier for them to breathe in their room, because the smell of skiing stays where it belongs. A recommendation for hard cases: if you’d like to offer a “special scent service”, you could provide your guests with a compact Aromea AERA, for example. Powerful and (for now) on loan - made especially for small rooms and very big scents. Because the way to the heart is through the nose after all, especially on holiday.
