Holidays, unwinding, relaxing, savouring. Breathing in mountain air and being in the moment. Feeling normal again. Sounds like music to our ears. And it is! Especially after the last few months, the longing for a slower pace and a programme of pure enjoyment keeps growing. We have an answer: the 4* Superior Hotel Schneider in Obertauern. What makes us so sure? Well, how about arguments such as the hotel’s own sun terrace, sauna landscape, whirlpool and indoor pool. Right on the ski slope. The skiing fun starts right on the doorstep! Meanwhile, the car takes a holiday of its own in the underground garage. And when hunger strikes, there are culinary creations made with the finest regional produce. On top of that, you get the most beautiful view of the Radstädter Tauern. Mmm… we’re already waxing our skis and waiting for the off! And psst… while we’re at it, we’ll let you in on a secret: mountain air and freshness have a very special meaning at Hotel Schneider. “What’s smelling so good in here?” Lisa Schneider told us…
Question: Obertauern - a skiers’ paradise of superlatives. And Hotel Schneider right in the middle of it, as one of the most popular hotels for alpine skiers. What makes your hotel so special?
Schneider: I think it’s a combination of the location, since Hotel Schneider is right on the piste and our guests can enjoy ski-in/ski-out, and the family atmosphere at the hotel. My parents run the hotel as the second generation, and my brother and I work alongside them as the third. At almost any time, one of us is around for the guests: whether it’s Dad helping out with service, Mum working on the decorations or one of us at reception, there for whatever our guests need. We’re often told that our joy in working as hoteliers is palpable and that we pass our warmth on to our team. For our guests, it feels just like “coming home”. We’re also very proud of our family history: the hotel grew out of a farm, and the farm is still run by our family. In winter we use meat and milk from our own farm, and our guests really appreciate that too.
Question: Comfort on every level - a holiday without the car. A very tempting promise. How does it work in practice?
Schneider: As the hotel is right on the ski slope, you can get straight on your skis and don’t need a ski bus to reach the lift. Our partner ski shop Intersport Frühstückl also offers free delivery and collection of rental ski equipment, which spares you lugging the “Brettln” (as we call skis round here) around for your entire stay. The hotel is also very central in the village of Obertauern, not directly on the main road, but only a few minutes’ walk from the nearest sports shops, stores, restaurants and bars. So our hotel’s top location lets guests park their car in the underground garage on arrival and only reach for the keys again when it’s time to drive home.
Question: People subconsciously link every experience with a particular scent. What does an adrenaline-charged day on the slopes smell like to you?
Schneider: To me, an adrenaline-charged day on the slopes smells of fresh snow, sunshine and Kasnocken (Alpine cheese dumplings) from our hotel restaurant!

Question: Hotel Schneider almost seems like the headquarters of AROMEA: seven diffusers are installed and four different fragrances work real wonders. Why did you decide on scent marketing, and on AROMEA Airdesign in particular?
Schneider: In the autumn we visited a beautiful hotel in South Tyrol that smelled especially good. That scent stayed with us even after our holiday, so we asked what smelled so good there, and that’s how we came across AROMEA. Funny, really: what happened to us in South Tyrol now happens to our guests with AROMEA at our place!
Question: The variety of scents shows that you’re as convinced about scent marketing as we are! Which fragrances do your guests get to enjoy, and why did you choose these in particular? Is there perhaps even a favourite?
Schneider: Yes, we really are convinced. What we particularly appreciated was the competent support from the very beginning. It’s always great when you can try out different scents in a personal conversation and get expert advice along the way. Our contact person is also available at any time after installation and very flexible in dealing with us. After several meetings we then settled on four directions, because we use them in different areas and have different needs in each. There’s White Tea at the lower-floor entrances, a scent that’s lovely and fresh and pleasant after a day’s skiing, Fresh Clean in the ski room to neutralise particular smells, Green Tea in the spa to underline the cosy, relaxing atmosphere in our wellness area, and our favourite, Sienna, in the entrance area, which is unobtrusive yet very elegant and exclusive and harmonises superbly with the ambience in the hotel lobby and entrance area.
