Scent marketing and grocery shopping don’t go together?! We beg to differ! At Eurogast Sinnesberger in Kirchdorf in Tirol, modern scent marketing from AROMEA combines with an incomparable food shopping experience. Thomas Draxl, deputy store manager at Eurogast Sinnesberger, talked to us about this food and gourmet market in the heart of Tyrol. On more than 3,000 m², he and his staff offer customers first-class fresh, regional and international products.
Eurogast Sinnesberger looks back on a long tradition. The company was founded by Franz Sinnesberger more than 120 years ago, and the first food wholesale business in the Kitzbühel district opened in 1968. What sets you apart from all the other food wholesalers?
Draxl: We are a family business from the region with a long tradition, and we want to offer our customers a gourmet market where food shopping becomes an experience and the products are of the highest quality. A full range across all regional and international product groups, plus personal advice, is what makes shopping with us so special. Hoteliers and private customers alike will find everything their culinary heart desires.

In 2019, after eight months of construction, you opened the Sinnesberger Markthalle: what’s the shopping experience like there? And what products do you offer?
Draxl: In our market hall, as well as the usual standard range, we offer a wide selection of speciality products. These include Austrian and international wines, various chocolates and barbecue sauces. We also attach great importance to sustainability and animal welfare. That’s why we sell only Austrian meat with a guarantee of origin. Our chilled fruit and vegetable section gets a delivery every day to guarantee freshness. And in the wine shop, a sommelier is on hand with expert knowledge for our customers, should choosing the right wine ever prove too difficult.
The stale air and wild mix of different smells in supermarkets can quickly spoil your good mood and, above all, your appetite. You, on the other hand, rely on exceptional scent marketing to counter this. In which areas does AROMEA get to contribute to the shopping experience?
Draxl: We rely on AROMEA’s great scent marketing above all in the entrance area. With so many different products, a wild mix of smells often can’t be avoided. The fragrances help us to prevent that and to enhance the shopping experience. That’s why we use the fragrance “Marsala” in our drinks section and wine shop. Amber and the rich aroma of tonka and vanilla go beautifully with the wine range and whet your appetite for a good glass of red or white. At the same time, the scent comes across as modern, mysterious and elegant. So, aromatically speaking, a successful evening starts while you’re still shopping.

Especially in the entrance area, it’s important to welcome your customers warmly and with positive impressions. You achieve this in your store with the help of AROMEA’s fresh fragrance “Green Tea”, and in the run-up to Christmas with “Christmas Delight”. Do your customers notice the feel-good atmosphere this creates? Have they ever mentioned it to you?
Draxl: Yes, several times! Our new customers are delighted every time they notice the aromatic yet subtle scent here. For our regular customers, it’s simply part of the shopping experience with us. The fragrant aroma of “Green Tea” is very positively received, especially now in summer, and goes down really well! In the run-up to Christmas, “Christmas Delight” contributes to a more pleasant, calmer mood. Because, as we all know, this time of year can get pretty hectic, especially when you’re food shopping.
