Scent marketing has probably been around for as long as humans have known the beguiling world of fragrance. People adorned themselves with fragrant blossoms, and as far back as ancient Egypt they were using sweet-smelling tinctures to sell themselves well. In Austria, the triumph of fragrance probably begins with the aristocracy of the Middle Ages. Washing wasn’t exactly in fashion at the time, and the everyday scent notes were ripe to match. French perfumers came to the rescue: the first “Airdesign” was invented around 1580 by the alchemist and apothecary Francesco Tombarelli in Grasse, France. It could be applied with precision using a modern perfume atomiser (flacon), the little pump bottles you may still remember from your gran. Modern Airdesign looks very different today, of course, with patented nano diffusion and a subtle effect right at the threshold of perception. Aromea makes that possible, with state-of-the-art technology and the right nose for the job.
A nose for marketing.
A nose for business is what makes or breaks a success story. In 1995, Oswin Lippitsch founded a small marketing firm in Austria with big ambitions: to create the best Airdesign in the world. No easy task, as the psychology of perception was only just beginning to tap into the marketing potential of the nose. In practice, Lippitsch Duftmarketing did pioneering work, with two aroma towers (Aromea No.1 & Aromea No.2) and some impressive arguments: residue-free evaporation, hygienic and safe operation, insane scent power and easy handling met finely arranged Aromea premium fragrance essences. Quality quickly makes a name for itself, and since 2007 that name has been “Aromea Airdesign”.
In 2009, the brand also brought the patented AirQ technology into the Aromea product portfolio, with new diffusers, its own fragrances and the brand-new option of scenting discreetly through the ventilation. A breath of fresh air arrived in 2017, when the two young chief noses, Peter Wieser and Franz Planegger, took over the Aromea success story. In 2018 they gave the brand a comprehensive redesign, website included, and that same year took tower production into their own hands as well. Since the start of this year, the German fragrance brand Assada has also been part of the Aromea family, and now acts as the direct contact for all 16 German federal states. Milestones of a marketing revolution or, to put it another way, the best Airdesign in the world.
Everything under one roof.
“We took over Aromea because we see, and saw, the company’s enormous potential. We want to realise that potential, offer customers great scent concepts and scent experiences, and so become the leading provider of scent marketing.”
Plain speaking from the Aromea chief noses, and clarity for customers too. Since taking over from founder Oswin Lippitsch, Peter and Franz have continuously developed the Aromea brand, sensibly expanded the product portfolio (Aromea Aera) and bundled scent services into convenient scent marketing service packages. So today Aromea offers every scent service under one roof, from the powerful aroma tower to the compact AirQ nano diffusers. The choice of scent solution is guided by the customer, because requirements come in all shapes and sizes:
An Aromea aroma tower can handle even large rooms, can be placed with pinpoint precision anywhere and ensures perfect scent conditions even with high customer footfall. The Aromea tower references speak for themselves: for example at the Weißes Rössl on Lake Wolfgang, the Sport- und Wellnesshotel Bichlhof, the Stock Resort Zillertal, the Hotel Interstar in Saalbach-Hinterglemm and also the Therme & Spa Resort Ronacher.
An Aromea nano diffuser blends discreetly into its surroundings with its compact design and scores above all in smaller rooms. Where scenting should go unnoticed, the nano scentmaker can even be hidden, and then diffuses the AirQ scent experience quite inconspicuously via the ventilation. For example in selected IKEA furniture stores, XXXLutz branches and Spar supermarkets. Either way: scent marketing promises success everywhere, because where it smells good, people feel good. They buy more, stay longer and give better reviews.
Experience made to order.
The applications for Airdesign are probably as limitless as Aromea’s scent solutions themselves. On request, Aromea even makes the brand presence one of a kind, with an individual Corporate Scent. A fragrance composed personally for each customer: where location, company philosophy, materials, landscape, logo, colours and feelings come together and are anchored in an atmospheric experience. For example at the Stanglwirt on the Wilder Kaiser and the Relax Resort Kothmühle, but also at Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB).
Our scent memory leaves the strongest impressions, which is why a fine scent is also the best calling card. The Egyptians knew that back then. But with Aromea, you’re always a decisive nose ahead of scent marketing today.
