Sometimes you lose something and have to go looking for it. Rarely on purpose, of course. And sometimes you hide something and then guard the secret. Usually very much on purpose. At Easter, as we all know, people love hiding and finding brightly painted eggs. It’s actually an ancient tradition with pagan roots, since gifts of eggs were once used to honour the spring goddess Ostara. The Church of the day wasn’t too keen on that, so ever since, the eggs have been given in secret - and hidden, too. So what does this thrilling game of hide-and-seek have to do with air and scent? It’s a little trade secret that the chief noses at Aromea, together with the air specialists at Lüftung Mayr, are ready to air right here, right now. In our Easter interview!
Just in time for Easter, we’re on the trail of a very special secret: the hidden scent of Aromea. So what exactly is this all about?
AROMEA With a scent solution from Aromea, we generally offer two ways of scenting: a local, self-contained free-standing diffuser - like our timeless aroma towers and compact nano diffusers - or the hidden version, installed in the ventilation system. In Tyrol, for example, we can look back on a long-standing partnership with Lüftung Mayr.
LÜFTUNG MAYR Exactly. As ventilation specialists, we offer all services, from installing to maintaining ventilation and air-conditioning systems. Together with Aromea, we also successfully implement scent concepts that work in exactly this hidden way, via the ventilation. There’s no need for a visible free-standing diffuser; you scent the air right at the source, so to speak.
Pretty ingenious! Can a “stealth system” like this be used with any ventilation system, or are there special requirements?
LÜFTUNG MAYR A “scent upgrade” from Aromea is easy to retrofit, which makes it possible to use in virtually all common systems. The only requirement, of course, is that the ventilation runs all year round.
AROMEA If the end customer already has a ventilation system, we at Aromea can put together a service offer tailored to every requirement. But we also work with partners like Lüftung Mayr as early as the construction and planning stages, to find the best ventilation logistics together. Suitable maintenance hatches or even dedicated ventilation ducts (for scenting selected areas) can then be planned in from the start.
What does an Aromea upgrade like this look like in a ventilation system, and where exactly is the Aromea diffuser installed?
AROMEA That always depends, of course, on which areas the customer wants scented and how exactly the ventilation works. Put simply, you can scent either system-wide or locally - centrally via the ventilation controls, or locally via individual ventilation ducts (if suitable maintenance hatches are available). That also lets you lift the atmosphere in selected areas only: given the right logistics, the wellness area, restaurant, washrooms and gym areas can all smell quite different, for example.
LÜFTUNG MAYR From a technical point of view, you might picture a ventilation system as something like the network of blood vessels in the human body: the heart of it is the control mechanism - in the plant room or perhaps in the attic. If you install an Aromea scent probe right there in the central ventilation duct, the system supplies all ventilated areas with even scenting (with a brand-specific Corporate Scent, for example). Alternatively, you can use the Scentmaker in certain areas only (for selected “ambient Airdesign”) - but that does require suitable maintenance hatches. The best way to explore these options is always an on-site visit, of course.
Maintenance question: how exactly is a diffuser like this controlled, and how do you change the fragrance?
AROMEA The diffuser isn’t built into the ventilation but placed alongside it. The scent is then introduced via a diffuser probe and patented AirQ technology. The ultra-light “dry” nano mist spreads from the probe through the airflow on its own, leaves no residue and ensures optimum scent conditions everywhere. Scent control and regulation then simply happen at the diffuser in the plant room. Changing the fragrance there is a matter of moments, too. On request, however, we also offer all scent-related services as a tailor-made scent marketing package.
LÜFTUNG MAYR By the way, Aromea also makes it very easy to coordinate the running times of the ventilation and the Scentmaker. So if the ventilation only runs at certain times, you can use the scent exactly when it’s needed. Thanks to the ventilation’s airflow, the scenting is also remarkably efficient, economical and fast. At clubs, sports events, in bars or at concerts - really at all “events with lots of people” - that’s always a particularly pleasant aspect.
So, to sum up, what concrete advantages does a diffuser solution via the ventilation offer the customer?
LÜFTUNG MAYR For us as a partner, the main advantages are the easy installation and operation. Thanks to dry diffusion, the technology also leaves no residue in the ducts, filters or ventilation equipment. And as long as the ventilation layout allows it, you can scent just selected areas.
AROMEA Especially for large room volumes, ventilation solutions from Aromea are an attractive way to make a real impression: department stores, hotels, banks, hospitals, residential complexes, office buildings, sports and event venues - the list could probably go on and on. In short: unwelcome odours are neutralised immediately and replaced with pleasant impressions. How about focused concentration instead of cold sweat during an exam, for instance? (That’s exactly why universities in Japan scent with eucalyptus and lemon.) Or a little spring freshness at Easter!
