Clove, lemon balm and cinnamon, for example, have an antibacterial effect, while lavender and tea tree work as fungicides (against fungi, that is), and thyme, oregano and savory can even do both. Peppermint and eucalyptus, on the other hand, have a disinfecting effect, and lemon, hyssop and cypress are even antiviral.
