Sometimes there are places that are more than just a destination. The SEELEITEN Lake Spa Hotel in Kaltern on Lake Caldaro is just such a place. Nestled in South Tyrol’s wine country, it has been combining elegance with true warmth for over 40 years, and creating moments that linger.
This family-run 5-star hotel, managed by Daniel and Dominic Moser, stands for lightness and dolce vita. A generous wellness area of around 3,600 m² invites you to relax, along with exclusive lake access straight into the deep blue waters of Lake Caldaro. A wide-ranging programme of cryotherapy, longevity, fitness, sauna and moments of indulgence makes a stay a holistic experience.
SEELEITEN also stands out on the culinary side: from local specialities and Mediterranean delicacies to sweet temptations, complemented by the hotel’s own Mendelbier beer and the Moser winery. The latter is run by experienced cellar master Gerhard Sanin and has fulfilled a long-cherished dream for the family. Here, every sip becomes a small masterpiece.
The award of two Michelin Keys in 2024 and 2025 further underlines the high standards and exceptional quality of the hotel.
But the true heart of it can’t be measured: it’s the people who shape this hotel. Family, history and authenticity. Here, staff and guests meet as equals, and that’s exactly what creates those special moments of happiness that you take home with you.
AROMEA Airdesign also makes a decisive contribution to the atmosphere. Fine scent concepts create spaces in which calm, relaxation and wellbeing become tangible. So a stay at SEELEITEN isn’t just a break, it’s a feeling of arriving: almost like home, only even nicer. We spoke with marketing expert Lena Rainer about scent marketing and the soul of SEELEITEN.

Describe the SEELEITEN Lake Spa Hotel in four words.
Lena Rainer: Lake lifestyle, lightness, a feel-good oasis for all the senses, and warmth.
What makes this 5-star hotel on Lake Caldaro in South Tyrol so special and unique?
Lena Rainer: In short: the special combination of Mediterranean lifestyle and alpine nature. Our hotel is just a few steps from Lake Caldaro, surrounded by vineyards, palm trees and one of the sunniest regions of South Tyrol. Many guests say it feels like “a holiday in the south, right in the middle of the Alps”. One highlight is certainly our private lake access with the Lake House, and our generous wellness area of around 3,600 m². But at the same time, SEELEITEN isn’t a huge hotel: it’s intimate and personal, which many guests really appreciate.
Another important point is our team: we work here like one big family. Our guests sense this lightness and warmth too, and it’s exactly this atmosphere that makes SEELEITEN so special.
Sustainability and longevity also play an important role for us, both in our daily work at the hotel and in our spa and health offering, which is geared towards long-term wellbeing.

SEELEITEN has been around for over 40 years: tell us about the family, how it all began and how the hotel has evolved.
Lena Rainer: SEELEITEN is a family-run hotel, built up by the Moser family. What started as a small business has been developed over many years with a great deal of passion. Today it has become a 5-star hotel that has nevertheless kept its family soul. Daniel and Dominic Moser, the next generation, are running the hotel today. Both bring in new ideas while staying true to the family’s values. For us, it has always been important to develop the hotel step by step without losing the personal atmosphere.
Spring is just around the corner: which offers or special experiences do you recommend to your guests for the change of season?
Lena Rainer: Spring on Lake Caldaro is something very special. Nature awakens, the vineyards turn green again and the temperatures are often very pleasant already.
Particularly popular at this time are activities such as: cycling along the South Tyrolean Wine Road, hikes through the Frühlingstal valley and around SEELEITEN, and the first relaxed hours right on the lake. Our private lakeside property becomes a popular meeting place again, for sunbathing, a little time out by the water or water sports. SUP, yoga by the lake, kitesurfing and much more are all ideal here. Many guests like to follow the active part of their day with relaxation in our spa area. And of course a glass of wine from our own Moser winery is a must, either on our Piazzetta in the hotel or right in the garden of our winery.

Why should you experience the SEELEITEN Lake Spa Hotel for yourself? What stays in your guests’ memories for a long time?
Lena Rainer: Many guests tell us that they sense a special calm as soon as they arrive. Our hotel is deliberately not huge, so everything is easy to navigate and you find your way around straight away. That quickly gives you a feeling of “coming home”.
What guests mention particularly often is the atmosphere in the hotel: our team works like one big family, and that’s exactly the feeling we pass on to our guests. Our hosts Daniel and Dominic Moser also set the example with this relaxed, warm manner. We may be a 5-star hotel, but we always try to stay authentic and not pretend to be something we’re not.
This mix of nature, indulgence, wellness and true warmth is probably what stays with many guests most.
Why did you consciously choose scent marketing, and how do these scents enhance the atmosphere of your hotel?
Lena Rainer: For us, all the senses play an important role at the hotel: not just sight and taste, but smell too. Scents can shape memories and emotions very strongly. With the scents “Golden Woods” and “De-stress Mind”, we wanted to create an atmosphere that conveys calm, relaxation and wellbeing. It was important to us that guests immediately notice this special scent when they enter the hotel and associate it with SEELEITEN. Ideally, this even creates a small sense of recognition: you smell the scent and immediately think of your stay with us.
In this way, we want not only to create memories of lovely holidays, but also to make the guest experience even more intense through the senses.
What feedback do you get from your guests on the scent ambience in the hotel?
Lena Rainer: Many guests don’t consciously notice the scent at first, and that’s actually the goal. But we often hear that the hotel feels especially pleasant and calming. Some guests even approach us directly about the scent or ask about it, because they associate it with their stay at SEELEITEN and it simply smells good. That shows us that a coherent scent concept really can contribute to the atmosphere of a hotel.

Hand on your hotelier’s heart: what does hospitality mean to you personally, and how do you live it every day at the SEELEITEN Lake Spa Hotel?
Lena Rainer: For us, hospitality means above all that guests feel welcome and well looked after. It’s not just about perfect service, but about true warmth. Every day, our team tries to be attentive, to recognise wishes and to create small special moments. When guests say at the end of their stay that they felt “just like home, only a little nicer”, that’s the greatest compliment for us.Photos: Klaus Peterlin
