Relaxation You Can Breathe In: At Hotel Therme Meran, Wellbeing Is in the Air

In the middle of South Tyrol, in the heart of Merano, high above the rooftops of the town, stands the Hotel Therme Meran. A hideaway that combines urban flair with alpine relaxation. Being “right in the middle of it all” has never been so quiet! The highlight? Definitely the hotel’s own two wellness oases.

In the Sky Spa you’ll find real palm trees and wellness of the highest calibre - here you get a little closer to the sun and experience boundless freedom. In short, you look down on it all without ever getting above yourself. In the Garden Spa you can simply dive out of sight for a while: relaxation zones and babbling waterfalls are perfect for “thoughts off - regeneration on”.

And because all good things come in threes, the “bathrobe tunnel” leads straight to thermal spa bliss. 26 pools, waves, bubbles, soothing lightness. In between stretches an extensive thermal park with a turtle pond and fragrant plant life.

The finest cuisine awaits at Restaurant Olivi or Bistro La Piazza. A sundowner in the Sky Bar or a classic cocktail in the Palm Lounge rounds off the pampering programme.

And in the hotel itself? There, staying means one thing above all: feeling good. The rooms and suites combine minimalist design with a generous sense of space. Clean lines, timeless interiors, parquet floors and panoramic views that give you room to breathe. Natural materials, high-quality fabrics and great attention to detail create rooms that radiate calm and have style too.

Here, relaxation isn’t just seen and felt - it has a scent! Since August 2025 the hotel has relied on AROMEA: a made-to-measure scent concept that turns every room into a multi-sensory experience. The scents Lemon Grass Ginger and Linen Lemon give off a gentle energy that still lets you switch off. The result is a feel-good place that instantly feels like home. Perhaps even a little better. We spoke to Deputy General Manager Veronika Puff.

The Hotel Therme Meran is a place to switch off and enjoy. What’s the philosophy behind the hotel?

Veronika Puff: The Hotel Therme Meran brings urban design, nature and wellness together in a holistic feel-good experience. Our philosophy is to create a place where guests can find peace in the middle of town. All around the hotel, the surroundings are shaped by mountains, little cafés and the charming lanes of the small town of Merano. The architecture follows the same idea: natural materials and warm colours create a calm, harmonious atmosphere. The result is an ambience that feels both stylish and relaxed. Perfect for switching off and recharging.

The spa area is the heart of the hotel. What makes the experience here so special?

Veronika Puff: The spa area really is the heart of our hotel. What’s special above all is the variety of wellness areas combined with our location. Wellness hotels with great spa facilities are often somewhere in the middle of nowhere. At the Hotel Therme Meran, you get to enjoy no fewer than three spa areas (Sky Spa, Garden Spa and Therme Meran) without missing out on everything our central location in the heart of Merano makes possible. The view of the mountains, the generous space, all the green of the plants and the high-quality treatments by our therapists create an experience that goes far beyond a classic spa visit.

Design, nature, wellness - at your hotel, everything goes hand in hand. How important is the atmosphere?

Veronika Puff: The atmosphere plays a central role. Our hotel was designed so that architecture, materials and surroundings are in harmony with one another. Wood and stone, along with warm colour tones, create a calm, timeless and elegant mood. At the same time, the design draws on local traditions and reinterprets them in a modern way. The result is an atmosphere that is elegant without feeling stiff.

This deliberate design creates surroundings that slow you down at once and in which guests feel at ease.

How did the partnership with AROMEA Airdesign come about?

Veronika Puff: The idea grew out of a wish to further develop the holistic feel-good experience for our guests. Alongside architecture, light and music, the sense of smell also plays an important part in how a room feels emotionally.

In AROMEA Airdesign we found a partner that specialises in professional scent concepts and complements our philosophy of a discreet, high-quality ambience.

Which fragrance do you use, and in which rooms?

Veronika Puff: We have a special fragrance for the spa area and one that can be used selectively in the rooms. Each room needs its own concept. Our aim wasn’t to find a dominant fragrance, but a fresh scent note that is perceived positively and enhances the natural atmosphere in the hotel.

Do guests give you any feedback on the scent ambience?

Veronika Puff: Although most guests tend to perceive the scent unconsciously, we do get positive feedback.

What would you like your guests to take with them when they check out?

Veronika Puff: We’re happy when our guests return home with new energy and lovely memories. We’re even happier when that sparks a wish to treat themselves to another break at the Hotel Therme Meran soon.

Your closing words?

Veronika Puff: A stay at the Hotel Therme Meran should be more than just a break. Our hotel should be a place where guests feel completely at home. No pressure, and yet with countless ways to spend your holiday actively and discover new things. Photos: Hotel Therme Meran
