Sunny alpine pastures, rocky mountainsides and the dark green of the forests: the region around Nauders is Tyrol just as you see it on postcards! In this dreamlike landscape, the borders of Italy, Austria and Switzerland meet, which is why hikers, mountain bikers and skiers can proudly tell you in the evening that they’ve crossed three countries in one day. And this is also where you’ll find the Aparthotel “Arabella”, run by the Moritz family for 40 years. The exclusive service and comfort of a 4* hotel combine with the perks of a holiday apartment. It’s like a holiday at home, only nicer! With a location like this, it’s no wonder the scent experience has to be right too. Christoph Moritz from Hotel “Arabella” sat down with us. And because the conversation was so great and so fascinating, there are even two parts. Today we talk about the hotel, how scents make the holiday feeling even more intense, and how AROMEA scent marketing fits in.
Question: The “Arabella”: that “Dahoam” feeling (Tyrolean for “at home”) with a certain something. What makes this feel-good resort so irresistible?
Moritz: Our guests see the “Arabella” as a “second home”, because with us they sense a special kind of freedom that is closely tied to a feeling of comfort and safety. The “Arabella” is a retreat where you can recharge and turn to the beautiful sides of life. Our motto “Ich bin. So frei.” (“I am. So free.”) captures this lightness, and at the same time the wonderful groundedness of the Arabella, very well. Our “Arabella” feeling arises when you get really close to yourself, your family and nature. When you sense what’s real and honest, dare to have little adventures and big feelings, and are happy together. We give our guests everything that brings out this precious feeling: feel-good spaces in a modern alpine style, amenities & services just as you wish them and a family atmosphere that respects privacy. It’s also part of who we are that we keep coming up with something new to surprise our loyal regulars. With the WOLKE 78 spa area, newly opened in summer 2021, we’ve pulled that off once again.
Question: Well now! What’s that smelling so wonderfully of nature indoors?
Moritz: We’ve always placed great importance on bringing nature into the hotel. How could it be otherwise, with this magnificent mountain panorama before our eyes and countless activities right on the doorstep? Local wood largely shapes the look of our apartments and lounge. Oak, larch and above all the “queen of the Alps”, the Swiss stone pine, also leave a lasting impression on the nose. The scent of Swiss stone pine is a real feel-good booster and promotes good sleep and conviviality. We pursued this idea of bringing nature indoors and letting it work its wonderful effect through the senses in the spa project too. We wanted not only to delight our guests with beautiful architecture, but to touch them on every level. Not just to appeal to the mind, but to make emotions something you can feel physically. That’s why we tinkered with every detail, from the choice of materials and colours to the sound recordings in the Nauders countryside, all the way to scent marketing.

Question: AROMEA x Arabella: a symbiosis that simply fits. How did this fragrant collaboration come about?
Moritz: When we were planning our new spa area, next-generation owner Christoph researched scent marketing online and ordered and tested lots of scent samples. It quickly became clear that most of the quality promises simply didn’t suit the Arabella: the products seemed very artificial, run of the mill and made in China. Then I came across AROMEA, and the branding and marketing won me over straight away. “Hopefully not another disappointment”, I thought. When it comes to these things, I’m an absolute perfectionist, because we really wanted to create a special spa area where nature plays a central role. Right in the garden, a glorious retreat under fir trees enchants us, so why not bring that experience indoors too? That’s why we got in touch.
You’ll find out how the collaboration continued in part two.
